Pretérito pluscuamperfecto.

Pretérito Pluscuamperfecto... wow... what a long name. Sounds more like a tongue twister, right? anyway, this is the 4th past in Spanish, if you look up for this topic, you will find the most common example like : " Cuando Juan llegó, ya todos se habían marchado" ( when Juan arrived, everyone had already gone) . Now I am here with a real text. Again , this text comes from a local newspaper in Cartagena - Colombia. Read carefully and pay attention how they use it:

"La primera persona diagnosticada con COVID-19 en el departamento de Córdoba está recuperada...Se trata de una mujer de 29 años, quien llegó procedente de Barcelona, España, al aeropuerto Los Garzones de Montería...La noche anterior había llegado del viejo continente al aeropuerto internacional El Dorado de Bogotá, donde las autoridades de salud le practicaron la prueba, justamente por provenir de España, pero ella no presentaba ningún síntoma que pudiera suponer que tendría la enfermedad."

Here we can notice different action: this woman who was in Spain  arrives to Dorado airport in Bogota, then she gets tested for Coronavirus. After that she travels to Corbaba , a Department located north part in Colombia. Pluscuamperfecto is the past of the past because it describes an action in the past that happened before another action also in the past. With this past tense you can use key words like in the example: la noche anterior, dos días / noches antes, ya. Help you to indicate what action in the past was first. is it make any sense for you? 

Dear readers. Remember that with compounds tense like present perfecto, past perfect, and future perfect in Spanish we use the verb HABER not verb TENER.
